The current development of the isogeometric approach in various fields of mechanics is explained by the high-accuracy results which can be achieved at a reduced computational cost by codes based on non-uniform rational B-splines (NURBS). In the case of strongly curved beams the simple diagonal de Saint-Venant’s constitutive model can lead to significant errors as it has been reported in the classic literature. Other models such as Winkler’s have been proposed and seem more suitable for these kinds of structures.

Visco-elastic structures are widely employedfor vibration damping.Nowadays, optimal design of these structures has become commonplace. However, operating conditions introduce variability in their performances. Taking into account this variability in the optimization loop is necessary to obtain optimal robust solutions.

C-SWARM is a center of excellence established by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) whose primary focus is on the emerging field of predictive science.

The research group of Design and Simulation of Composites Structures at IMDEA Materials, led by Drs. Carlos González and Cláudio S. Lopes, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the field of multiscale computational mechanics of advanced composites. Nowadays, there is an increasing interest to use composite materials in automotive applications, in particular the use of fibre-reinforced plastics (carbon or glass fibres in a polymer matrix) is widely considered. The use of lighter materials, and hence a reduced fuel consumption, can be one of the possible solutions for reduced CO2 emissions.

The abstract submission for the 24th International Workshop on
Computational Mechanics of Materials (IWCMM 24) in Madrid, Spain, on
October 1st-3rd, 2014 is now opened. The deadline for abstract
submission is June 15th, 2014.

The workshop is intended to cover all aspects of modeling and
simulations of the mechanical behavior at different length and time
scales. The materials of interest range from traditional materials such
