We have an opening for a post-doctoral fellow position in multiscale computational mechanics of polymers. The project focuses on modeling and simulation of the thermo-mechanical behavior of polymers with covalent adaptable networks (CANs), e.g. vitrimers. The objective is to formulate a hierarchical modeling and simulation approach, which closely mimics key steps in the recycling and reshaping processes of CAN polymers by embedding the physics at two length-scales – (i) discrete-continuum (meso-scale) and (ii) homogenized continuum (macro-scale).

The group of Prof. Liming Xiong at the Iowa State University has an immediate opening for a self-motivated Ph.D. student in the general area of computational solid mechanics and computational materials science. Atomistic simulation, DD, PFM and FEM experience will be a plus. The enrollment into the Ph.D. program is as early as Fall 2016, financially supported by a Research Assistantship. The Center for Modeling, Simulation and Imaging in Medicine (CeMSIM) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, USA invites applications for multiple postdoctoral associate positions to work on projects funded by the NIH on developing virtual surgery technology. The ideal candidate will develop the next generation surgical simulation technology based on advanced physics-based computational methods and robotic systems in collaboration with surgeons at Harvard Medical School.

The 64 m diameter Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT), located near Cagliari (Italy), is the world’s second largest fully steerable radio telescope with an active surface. Among its peculiarities is the capability of modifying the configuration of the primary mirror surface by means of electromechanical actuators. This capability enables, within a fixed range, balancing of the deformation caused by external loads.

The University of Notre Dame, Center for Shock Wave-processing of Advanced Reactive Materials (C-SWARM), is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the postdoctoral associate position in the area of computational mechanics/physics with emphasis on parallel numerical methods. C-SWARM is a center of excellence established by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) whose primary focus is on the emerging field of predictive science.

Two post doctoral positions are available at the University of Limerick, Ireland. The object of the research, which is funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), is to obtain an understanding of the mechanical behaviour of ferritic and martensitic steels at the micron and sub-micron scale and to link this behaviour to component behaviour. The work will involve computational and experimental studies of material behaviour using a range of numerical and experimental techniques.
