modelling a 3D composite tube

Hi guys,

I deal with modal analysis of 3D 'both clmaped' composite tube in ANSYS. I use solid elements and orthotropic model of material. Constants of this material are homogenized values of composite tube. So I meshed the tube and set the element coord system ESYS as cylindrical. The problem is with results, becasue after solving I get very low eigenfrequncies, i.e. first 100 eigenfrequencies are from 0 to 10 Hz with step 1 Hz and it seems a bit weird.

Do you have any tips where the problem could be?

Thanks,

VABS 3.6 Reduces Realistic Composite Blade Modeling to Seconds

AnalySwift, LLC, a leading provider of efficient high-fidelity modeling software for aerospace and energy composites and other advanced materials, announced today the release of VABS 3.6. This is the latest version of VABS, which is the tool of choice for efficient and accurate modeling of composite slender structures such as wind turbine blades, helicopter rotor blades, high aspect ratio wings, composite bridges, and other slender structural components.

University Lectureship in Solid Mechanics and Materials Engineering, University of Oxford

job

The Department of Engineering and Balliol College at Oxford University have a University Lectureship available in the area of Solid Mechanics and Materials Engineering. We would be particularly interested in receiving applications in the general area of composite and lightweight materials, including, polymer, metal, ceramic, biological and multifunctional composites, foams and lattice materials. The closing date for applications is 16th January 2012. Further information can be found in the attached files.

We look forward to receiving your application.

Industry-level journal about FEM applications

Hi dear mechanicians,

I am about to publish the results of my MSc thesis in a journal. The thing is, my project was carried out in industry aboutmulti-scale FE simulation of impact in composites. So it is merely an industry-level application of available methods.

I want to ask if any of you have any particular journal in mind, in which publishing such a paper is rather easy (doable) and does not have a long waiting list for review??

Looking forward to your suggestions

Thanx a lot

impact damage due to laminar construction??

Hi everyone,

According to a book chapter written by NL Hancox, 'Laminar construction of composites which is required if the reinforcing fibres are to be used efficiently and anisotropy reduced, can be a reason why composite laminates are vulnerable to impact damage.'

现在我有三个问题;

1-What is meant here by the specified 'laminar construction to reduce anisotropy'?Does it mean to use different orientation for fibres in each ply to have an isotropic material at the laminate level?

Coupled thermo-structural analysis of CFRP using ANSYS

Hi everyone,

does anyone know publications dealing with the coupled thermo-structural analysis (direct method) of CFRP using ANSYS?
