job

We seek a highly qualified applicant for a post-doctoralresearch position in experimental mechanics and materials. The successful candidate will designand conduct experiments establishing mechanical properties of thin polymerfilms and layered composite materials at a range of temperatures and humidityconditions. The project aims towards improving the durability of polymer fuelcells and is funded through DOE. Funding for this position is availableimmediately for a period of one year and may be renewed thereafter.

Requirements for the position are: (1) A Ph.D. in MechanicalEngineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field; and (2) Adocumented and working knowledge in experimental mechanics (e.g., establishingconstitutive equations using materials testing equipment and TMA or DMA).Experience with finite elementsimulations and materials characterization such as SEM and TEM is desirable.

If interested, send a CV, the names of at least threereferences and cover page highlighting the experience in experimentalmechanics. Applications must be submitted in a pdf format file via e-mail toProfessors Michael H. Santare (santare@udel.edu)and Anette M. Karlsson (karlsson@udel.edu).请identify the application via the subject line “Mechanical propertiespost doc.”

University of Delaware is an EqualOpportunity Employer.

I am a doctoral student wishing to pursue research in stochastic time integrations. In particular, I am interested in solving nonlinear parabolic (possibly vector) equations where the uncertainty sources are mainly in the system parameters (for example, uncertain material properties, uncertain geometry information etc.). I am interested in physical systems that, in a deterministic world, could be efficiently solved using methods like finite elements.
