dear friends,
I am a bit confused as some literature says its a long column and other says short column meant to take compressive loads only.

buckling short column long column
you see short column and long column when your load is compression and you are concern about buckling. you can find more information here.

Strut - long/short column
thanks for your reply.
Actually, i wanted to know about strut. I mean how to define strut.
Should we consider, strut as short/long column.
strut compression
Strut is designed to resist longitudinal compresssion. they have high slender ratio (lenght/thickness) but again you should calculate slender ratio to make sure that it is long/short column.
