Opening for two new Ph.D. students in the Computational Mechanics group, The University of Iowa.

job

The Computational Mechanics group at The University of Iowa, led by Professor S. Rahman, is looking for two new Ph.D. students, who are capable of and interested in performing high-quality research on uncertainty quantification and stochastic design optimization. The research, supported by U.S. National Science Foundation, requires building a solid mathematical foundation, devising efficient numerical algorithms, and developing practical computational tools, all associated with stochastic analysis and design of complex materials and structures. A substantial background in solid mechanics with coding experience in finite-element or similar methods is a must; exposures to uncertainty quantification and probabilistic methods are highly desirable.

If you are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree at Iowa, please contact and send a resume to Professor Sharif Rahman atsharif-rahman@uiowa.edu。Please note that we are interested in students who already have M.S. degrees in engineering or applied mathematics. To be admitted, the student must meet or exceed the following GRE scores: 152V, 159Q, 4.0AW. The admission requirements are listed athttps://me.engineering.uiowa.edu/graduate/mechanical-engineering-graduat...

The desired start date is Fall 2018 or Spring 2019 at the latest.
