Elasticity notes of Eli Sternberg

Ruobing Bai's picture

Here are the elasticity notes of Eli Sternberg over many years as he taught AM 135 at Caltech. I had access to them when I was working with Prof. Kaushik Bhattacharya at Caltech during postdoc. Prof. Bhattacharya suggested making the notes publicly available via iMechanica, and below is a short note from him.

"I received this set of notes from Jim Knowles, a long-time friend and collaborator of Eli Sternberg, in 1993.诺尔斯说me that Sternberg continually improved these notes over many years as he taught AM 135 at Caltech.Knowles understood that Sternberg planned to eventually publish them, but did not do so doing his life-time as he did not feel that they were ready.Knowles was conflicted with the idea of publishing them posthumously as he saw potential value but also respected the fact that Sternberg did not regard them as ready.Over the years, I have found things in these notes that are useful but are not easily accessible elsewhere. So, I spoke to Peter Sternberg, the son of Eli Sternberg and am making the notes publicly available with his agreement.
