We invite applications for Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions with the Bio-inspired Robotics & Design Laboratory (http://brd.sutd.edu.sg) at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).

The project will investigate modelling, simulation and optimisation of soft robots and structures using computational mechanics.
Research areas include: structural and morphological optimisation and multi-physics optimisation.

Applicants should have a PhD in Mechanical, Structural or Computational Engineering or a related discipline and proven experience in computational methods (e.g., finite element method, topology optimization, multi-scale or multi-physics simulation) and continuum mechanics (e.g., statics, dynamics, nonlinear mechanics, constitutive modelling). Strong programming skills are required, preferably in C++. Candidates should have the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and have interest in soft robotics applications, but no previous knowledge in that domain is required.

The positions offer highly competitive salaries and benefits. Applications consisting of a single PDF file containing a cover letter, CV, and a sample publication can be sent to Assist. Prof. Dr. Pablo Valdivia y Alvarado (pablov@sutd.edu.sg).

Maximal energy that can be converted by a Dielectric Elastomer Generator //m.limpotrade.com/node/5527 < div class = "字段field-name-taxonomy-vocabulary-6field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-hidden">

Mechanical energy can be converted to electrical energy by using a dielectric elastomer generator. The elastomer is susceptible to various modes of failure, including electrical breakdown, electromechanical instability, loss of tension, and rupture by stretch. The modes of failure define a cycle of maximal energy that can be converted. This cycle is represented on planes of work-conjugate coordinates, and may be used to guide the design of practical cycles.

As
in last year's call, interested applicants should have recently
obtained their PhD (at most not more than 48 months, but preferably
within 24 months). The awardees will be offered a research staff
position at one of A*STAR's prestigious science and engineering
research institutes for a duration of 3 years, renewable for a further
3 years, with each A*STAR Investigator's laboratory eligible for a
research grant of up to US$500K a year.

The flyer on this year's award is attached, and more information can be found at http://www.a-star.edu.sg/astar_investigators_serc.
Applications close on 31 May 2009. As has often been highlighted at the
SAB meetings, the best contacts come through personal connections. We
would therefore appreciate greatly your assistance in helping publicise
the award through your network of contacts to potential applicants.
