The Applied Mechanics Division Executive Committee (AMD-EC) is pleased to announce the 2021 IMECE Student presentation award competition.

Students can self-nominate and are required to send a brief one-page CV, a recommendation letter from the student’s Faculty Advisor or Department Chair, the abstract of a paper accepted for presentation at IMECE in Track 12: Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Fluids, and a draft presentation. Please note that, at the time of the award presentation, the applicant must be enrolled full-time in a degree program at a US institution. A Faculty Advisor may not endorse more than one student. The nominations will be reviewed by the AMD-EC. Up to ten students will be selected for grants of $400 each.

Dates:

September 17, 2021: Submit the nomination, by e-mail, to Professors Pradeep R. Guduru (Pradeep_Guduru@Brown.edu) and Marco Amabili (marco.amabili@mcgill.ca). The nomination should include: (a) CV of the applicant (one page); (b) Title and abstract of a paper accepted for presentation in Track 12: Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Fluids at IMECE 2021; (c) Recommendation letter from the Faculty Advisor or Department Chair.

This award is given to Alexander in recognition of his accomplishments in Nonlinear Dynamics, in particular his pioneering research in the area of Nonlinear Normal Modes and their influence on the global dynamics of nonlinear systems, as evidenced by his outstanding publication record and impact on the field.

The award, which includes a medal, a plaque, and an honorarium of $1,000, will be presented at the AMD Honors and Awards Banquet, during the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, to be held in Montreal, Quebec, November 14-20, 2014.

2014 Ted Belytschko Applied Mechanics Award - Professor Glaucio H. Paulino

The Executive Committee of the ASME Applied Mechanics Division is pleased to announce and congratulate Professor Glaucio H. Paulino, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, who is the recipient of the 2014 Ted Belytschko Applied Mechanics Award.

This Applied Mechanics Award was established in 1988 and renamed the Ted Belytschko Applied Mechanics Award in 2008. The Award is given to an outstanding individual for significant contributions in the practice of engineering mechanics; contributions may result from innovation, research, design, leadership or education.

Glaucio received this award for seminal contributions on multiscale fracture mechanics and cohesive failure of existing and emerging materials; and for leadership at the national level as NSF program director for mechanics of materials and for sustained contributions to the CONCAM committee of ASME.

The award, which includes a medal, a plaque, and an honorarium of $1,500, will be presented at the AMD Honors and Awards Banquet, during the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, to be held in Montreal, Quebec, November 14-20, 2014.
