Position Description:Multiple postdoctoral associate positions in the area of advanced synthesis and nano/micro-scale characterization of nanoparticles and nanocomposites are available at Rice University. Various techniques will be applied to synthesize and self-assemble size- and shape-controlled (calcium) silicate-polymer nanoparticles followed by nano- and micro-characterizations including a myriad of probes such as electron microscopies (TEM, XRD, SEM, AFM), ICP, XPS, NMR, porosimetry, dynamic mechanical analysis, nanoindentation, etc.

Hosted by the MIT Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in collaboration with the MIT Industrial Liaisons Program (ILP), Infrastructure Innovation in a Changing Environment will explore new economic opportunities and market-driven responses to the challenges facing large-scale infrastructure projects.

Additive manufacturing (AM) has emerged as a powerful technique for manufacturing of various types of biomaterials and implants. Using AM, it is now possible to fabricate biomaterials with arbitrarily complex shapes at different scales. The inventory of biomaterials that can be used in this way continues to increase, extending the possible range of products and applications.

EMLSpecial Issue on 3D Assembly by Cutting, Bending and Folding

When patterned with different materials, gradients or cut-outs, thin structures such as sheets and rods can bend or fold either spontaneously or by actuation in response to a force or stimulus to form a pre-designed three dimensional structure. This special issue addresses the design and mechanics of these structures with a special emphasis on programmability and non-linearity.

Manuscript Submission:

The rapid and efficient development of soft active materials requires readily available, compact testing equipment. We propose a desktop-sized, cost-efficient, and open source radial stretching system as an alternative to commercially available biaxial and uniaxial stretching devices. It allows for doubling the diameter of an elastomer membrane while measuring the applied force. Our development enables significant cost reduction (<300 €) and increase the availability of equibiaxial deformation measurements for scientific material analysis.

The School of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics (宁波大学机械工程与力学学院) is actively recruiting in all levels of broad fields and subjects of mechanical engineering include but NOT limited to Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Thermomechanics, Vibrations, Noise, Machine Design, CAD, Manufacturing Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Material Processing, and others. The School has been receiving additional fundings in developing programs of undergraduate and graduate on Mechancial Engineering, Mechanics, Industrial Engineering, and other areas.
