4.075; our articles received significant social media attention, including one article published in 2020 mentioned by 298 outlets; our articles continued to attract attention of researchers, and were downloaded about 200,000 times in 2020.
Our proudest achievement in 2020, however, is the EML Webinar Series. Acting upon an initiative by EML’s Co-Editor-in-Chief, Professor Zhigang Suo, we launched the Series in the middle of the pandemic in April 2020 on the Zoom platform. The Series presents leading researchers on various EML-related topics every Wednesday. To our pleasant surprise, the Series attracted a sizable following, more than 1,500 live audience for a number of webinars, and thousands more watching the recorded videos. One unique feature of the webinars is its extended Q&A and discussion lasting up to two hours after the presentations, covering topics not only related to the presentations but also on broader research perspectives and even career advice for young researchers. The wisdoms of the leading researchers are unbelievably rich, benefitting young and seasoned researchers alike. Some EML webinar presenters also published a brief summary of their presentations with detailed references for easy citation.
The new year of 2021 is upon us. There will be new challenges but also new opportunities. We the TEAM EML will continue to work hard to serve the community by providing a dynamic platform for researchers to publish their best work. We will continue the EML Webinar Series on Wednesdays, and explore innovative ways to enhance the exchange of ideas and research results in the post-pandemic “new norm”. We look forward to working with all of you in 2021 to further elevate EML to be a flagship journal of our community.
Our best wishes to you all for a happy and rewarding 2021!

Now 12 articles are available online on ScienceDirect (see http://www.journals.elsevier.com/extreme-mechanics-letters/, recent articles). I have to confess that I am in fact pleased with what I see. Here are some observations:
Is this good or bad? I don’t know, since I cannot predict the impact of these papers. But I think it is interesting.
Was this by design? No. We cannot control what you submit.
What will EML be like as it grows? The answer is in your hands.
So EML is born. It is YOUR baby! Please join these authors to help shape the future of EML.
